Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

If your girlfriend has an average cycle of 28 days then sex on 4th and 5th day is pretty safe and unlikely to cause pregnancy. Signs and symptoms of pregnancy can start about 4-5 days before the period is missed but are most prominent in the weeks following the missed periods. Hope this helps. Take care!
