Hello,

My partner has Crohns and was diagnosed when we was 17, he was told to leave school and enjoy life as he would only live for another 6 months, he is now 36 and has been in remission since he was 20. We have been together for 8 years and have two young children. I would like to think that he was wrongly diagnosed but he has a gut ache when stressed or needs to go to the toilet, sometimes his farts really stink and sometimes he looks a bit yellow. He also smokes between 10-15 cigarettes per day and is not on any medication. That's all that has happened since I have known him, I would like to know is this normal to not have had any problems in 16 years? Is something going to happen soon and take us by surprise? He is the main income earner of our family, what type of insurances should we have? I have looked at life insurance but he has been rejected online from putting crohns, do you know of any insurance companies that insurer people with crohns?

I would like him to have checkups now and then but he says that he will not have any more tests done because of what he was put through when he was 17. He seems fine to me but I would like to know more from people who have been in remission from after they have been diagnosed as I need to prepare for the future as I have a young family and if my partners income was to stop we would be in serious trouble.

Please help.
Thanks Sally.

My husband has Crohn's and has not had a flare up in over 20 years. He takes 2 medications daily and has yearly check ups and avoids certain foods that irritate his system. I find it odd you had problems getting insurance. My husband had no problems with that at all but he is NOT a smoker, maybe that makes the difference?
