How long are the joint pains/stiffness/aches likely to last ?? Mine have suddenly started with hands and feet, but then some days into other joints (shoulders, knees). I am 51, healthy, all my bloodwork is normal, have not had a period in 10 months . I have never experienced anything like this, and from other forums have discovered this is all due to menopause....but will it ever go away ? or is this something that I now live with for the rest of my life?? Hopefully it is a passing stage ..... and any suggestions for easing this ? It is definately worse first thing in the morning and later at night...thank you so much...

Menopause Answer A27570
Hello,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The joint pains could be due to menopause. If the symptoms are getting worse or have been persistent, you should consider visiting your gynecologist/obstetrician for further evaluation and to discuss the option of getting started on HRT for better control of your symptoms. You can also consider taking opinion from a Orthopedic surgeon to rule out chances of osteoarthritis, senile arthritis, etc. Treatment as needed (based on examination and investigations results) would be started to help you for symptom control. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.

Thank you, but how long is this likely to last ?? Is it 6months, a year or 2 , or for the rest of my life ?? and will things like glucosamine chondroitin do me any good ? These aches /swollen joints (esp in my thumb joints) came on literally overnight .... are the symptoms likely to disappear as quickly as they came....or am I in this for the long haul ????

i had very same debilitating joint pains awful stiffness especially in shoulders knees and unbearable pain in hands and feet . plus crashing fatigue age 51 no periods for 18 months. felt like crying every day. nothing helped. iwent from highly functional and running 5 kilometers daily to not being able to sit or get off thetoilet without help! thankfully my doctor did bloodtests i had Undetectable levels of progesterone and estrogen. now I am on a weekly combined patch and i feel wonderful really it only took a day and a half for improvement. now i am back to exercising and will see the doctor to change my prescription toallow me to change the patch morefrequently as heavy exercise seems to suck them dry and render them ineffective after 3 or 4dsys instead of lasting a full week. pls dont suffer needlessly -the doctor will asses your needs and prescribe HRT and you can get bio identical on a drug plan do it.
