Q: How can I overcome Dyslexia

Hi folks,

I am already over 40. When I was in school, I found I had the most difficult time in math classes. When people read me a sequence of numbers, I will write the numbers in different orders. I never can focus to finish one book. I normally jumped only to the topics that I was interested. I am so easy to be sidetracked. I am a left handedness. The chance are very high that I am a dyslexia. I do not notice it because I could finish the college. Until I repeatedly heard people talking about "Dyslexia", then, I pay more attention to it. I looked up the Internet and I found that I have most of the symptoms.

I want to overcome this problem because it is hurting my career. I am very depressed now. Would anyone please recommend any ways or reading materials for me to correct this learning disability. Thanks in advance!

I feel for you! There's no known way to correct the underlying brain functions that cause dyslexia and the condition is treated by re-educating yourself.

Here are some books promoted by the International Dyslexia Association. Most seemed focused for children, but you might benefit from learning about how to re-teach yourself by reviewing the methods outlined in the curriculum guides.

You're welcome, Evebill8. Please let me know if you have any other questions. My husband is also dyslexic, so we're learning slowly as he's an adult what patterns and ways he learns best.

Thanks! I find I could learn things better with visual aids like pictures or diagrams. Is it true to your husband too? I will aim that direction to find out my path of learning.

He's actually really good with numbers and verbal listening. Diagrams and flow charts are also good...
