My 12 year old autistic child was given Yaz to stop menstrual cycle. Instead, she had a cycle for 4 weeks, quit eating, and slept a lot. We stopped the medication. She's better now but has developed a "buffalo hump" at the top of her back near neck. It's painful for her. We took her through emergency because one night she was in a lot of pain. X rays showed nothing. Doctor said maybe hormonal. Swelling went down and she was fine for a bit but now it's inflamed again. Any idea as to what this is? Will it go away since we took her off of Yaz or should we see a certain type of specialist?

Hi clopez this could be kyposis wich is an abnormal forward bend in the uper spine, but it sounds as though it developed very quickly so it might be more likly to be a collection of fat at the base of the neck that can be caused by a number of conditions

Causes
Certain drugs used to treat AIDS
Extended use of certain steroid medicines, including prednisone, cortisone, and hydrocortisone
Extreme obesity
Hypercortisolism (caused by Cushing syndrome)
Osteoporosis may cause a curvature of the spine in the neck called kyphoscoliosis.
