Dear Dr.

I had a protected exposure (Although I doubt the condom slipped) I had some HIV-like symptoms at the 4th week "fever, fungus, etc...) but it went away within 2 days.

I did the following:

1- "1 Month after" HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibodies + HIV-1 Antigen (Result Non-Reactive 0.2)
2- "2 Months after" HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibodies + HIV-1 Antigen (Result Negative 0.24)

Now I'm at 61 days "8.6 Weeks".

My kind questions are:

1- What are the chances per percentage that this results might turn positive if the test is taken next month "3 months after exposure", and 6 months after exposure?

2- What does the "0.2 and 0.24" mean?

Hi,

1. The chances are pretty low. HIV tests are very sensitive. Most of the HIV+ persons test positive after 6 weeks. The chances are, I think, around 1%. Its my guess. I hope someone else will confirm my estimation.

2. 0.2 and 0.24 meas the strength of the signal in the ELISA assay. They are pretty weak: negative. The problem is if they are around 0.99. That is an intermediate result, so the test must be repeated. High values means positive. 0.2 and 0.24 is very low.

And one more thing: if you test negative after 12 weeks you don`t need to test again. 12 weeks results are conclusive.
