Q: HIV test and blood samples
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 20th, 2008
Dear Doctor,
I am a Male from Mumbai-India.
i had first and last exposure in mar, o7 for which i went for a 3rd hiv blood test at a hiv clinic. All 3 reports done after 3,6 and 8 months of exposure have been NON-REACTIVE. what am worried about is that is it possible to get infected while getting a blood test done?
The technician came with a needle which had a translucent cap on it but wrapped. She attached the needle to vacutainer tube, uncapped the needle and took my blood.
This is the situation i was into. Do you see any risk in this? I have not put myself at no other risk what so ever after the one in Mar,07. About the blood test' do you think if it is a risk? I remember seeing the needle, and there was no visible blood on it.
Do I need to repeat a test for this incident or can I put this behind me? Can I get married? Am i at risk?
PLEASE PLEASE REPLY AT THE EARLIEST.
P.S. I have pain in groin on the left side and left armpit. No other symptom either.

It is unlikely that any incident may have happened while the blood sample was taken from you. It is likely that that needle was used only on you and nobody else. You don’t need any more HIV-tests because you are no longer at risk. Now, you only need to forget your past and to relax. Of course, you can get married if you want.
