Q: HIV , skin inflammations , and neural issues
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 18th, 2009
Hi Doctor,
After sex with a sex worker with unprotected oral sex,
I have developed crawling, tingling, itching, burning sensations all over the body randomly. while the initial reports have indicated 'negative' to many known high risk/med risk STIs, i am still experiencing the above symptoms on and off for a month now.

Please clarify the possible viral infections for the above symptoms and if in the worst case if this is an early case of HIV.

with thanks and regards
samudra

The symptoms you reported (crawling, tingling, itching, burning sensations all over the body randomly) are not specific enough for a definitive diagnosis to be given. Skin inflammation is usually presented with various skin changes: like several or many reddish papules. They might also be filled with pus, detected as a white spot in the middle. Enlarged lymph nodes in the vicinity might be detected, too. The symptoms you reported might also be related to a neural issue. The nerves might be affected both by infection and/or inflammation.

Visiting a neurologist for the possible neurological issue or a dermatologist for the possible skin issue might be recommended.

As for the HIV infection, it can be ruled out for sure only with an HIV test, which you are highly advised to do.
