really? so if i tested negative for hiv at 7 months and just a month later i tested positive in a test for mono. can it mean that i have hiv? that maybe it did not show in the hiv test but showed in the test for monoculosis?

It is really difficult to give personal advice via email without asking more questions. Here is what I can tell you. Mononucleosis `Mono` is a viral infection that is common in teenagers. It causes sore throat, swollen glands and tiredness amongst other things. It is usually passed by kissing or direct contact with saliva. There is no link between Mono and HIV. That is to say that if you have Mono it does not mean you are more likely to have HIV. When i said yes and yes I did not mean that mono was a sign of HIV.

In this day and age, I would recommend all sexually active persons get tested for HIV infection. I also think that if you and your boyfriend don`t want to get pregnant then hopefully you are using some type of pregnancy prevention. Condoms (latex) are useful in preventing the spread of HIV and other diseases transmitted through sex. It would be fine for you and your boyfriend to both be tested for HIV. Just because the doctor ran some tests does not mean they specifically ran tests for HIV. Typically, you have to sign a permission form to allow for HIV testing. Hopefully with this information you and your boyfriend can make some good decisions on testing.

Ok. Yes during ARS, early hiv infection can resemble mono. There are other symptoms as well. For example, I knew someone who was Hiv infected early that only had one symptom; an really bad headache for a week. The doc said he was just newly infected. Early symptoms due resemble sore throat, usually high fever, Extreme fatigue, maybe bowel changes, etc.

Now with that being said, most people with these symptoms do not have HIV. You said you had a negative test 7months after unprotected activity. You DO NOT HAVE HIV. 7month will show whether you have HIV. 3months will show if you have HIV.

Now unless you have had unprotected sex since your last test, than I wouldnt be worried. Even if you did, that does not mean that you have HIV. Mono is mono. You were diagnosed with Mono. Get it. Just cause you are diagnosed with mono surely does not indicate you have HIV. Having mono and having mono symptoms are different. You were diagnosed with something based on your symptoms. That was mono. Nothing to do with HIV. K. I know I may sound redundant but Im trying to make sure you understand. Your fine sweety and believe me I have the same fears.

yes the first test was specifically for hiv cos i went in a gu clinic to test for it. the doctor did not recomend me to do the test again he just said that the test is negative. however while awaiting results i starting developing glandular fever symptoms and then i went to a clinic and they said tehy willl test to see if its glandular fever and that is what they said that it is from EBV virus. however i do not know if the test which they use for glandular fever is specifically for it. that is why i am worrying so much.

now recently i had to do a CBC test cos i had inflamed tonsils which i could not get rid off not even with antibitoics. now thankfully they seemed to heel after 2 months. the cbc blood test showed everything normal. one more question...if you've been infected with hiv say for years ago do you think it would show anything abnormal in the CBC results??

Focus on your exams. Ive been there girl. I had fevers, loose stools, stomach aches for three weeks! freaked me out! I took a test several months later. I was fine. Now if you took a test seven months ago and you havent had unprotected sex since, than YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. And if you were infected years ago it would have surely showed up on your HIV test.

Futhermore, mono is common in college kids.

Futhermore, your high anxiety over this(Ive bee there, luv) will make you even more sick. My advice is to STAY OFF THE NET AND DO NOT SYMPTOM SEARCH. You may wish to talk to someone. This may turn into a mental disorder such as GAD(generalized anxiety disorder) That is what I have.

reneeee11, bravo...good job. Also, I have had AIDS for many many years and believe me, it doesn't mean your going to die. Today people are living with AIDS, not dying from it. It is a manageable virus and not a death sentence.

thanks for your reply. sometimes i think it might be mentally but sometimes i do feel some symptoms which i associated with from what i found on the net. but if at 7 months the test is accurate than i think i should be fine. i will try to forget and i really wish to but sometimes the toughts come back...also i just did a complete blood count test and every thing seems fine. well thanks for the patience im feeling a bit better now
