Q: HIV from one encounter ?

I had an encounter this past weekend where I engaged in Anal Sex with a man. This was my first encounter with the same sex. The day after i came down with a sore throat. It later progressed into coughing up phlegm, and a mild headache. I was the "inserter" and was wondering what are the chances of HIV entering through the urethra? And the chances for the "inserter" to get HIV. I also had a little red thing on my Penis after and was hoping it wasn't dried up blood or something. I'm really worried that I could have been infected with HIV. Can it show up that quick?

Look simple answer, yes if this man was Hiv positive there is a very good chance that you now are as well. So I do advise you getting checked. Anal sex is a sure way to spread Aids when preformed without a condom. So I guess you just have to hope that this man was clean and I would go get a blood screen if I were you.

It doesn't matter for what duration you have had sex, transmission is possible even if the sex was for one minute. If you have little cuts and tears on your penis and there is HIV involved, you will get it.

I am not trying to scare you at all.

Blood is one of the fluids with lots of HIV in it. That concerns me that you had dried blood on your penis. But then again the blood was dried and could not carry live HIV..

Oral sex is a lower risk activity especially for the person receiving. But you performed on each other. Depending on your oral hygiene it is possible to pick something from the sexually transmitted diseases.

I recommend that you wait 90 days from the day of supposed infection and get tested for HIV for your own peace of mind. Also, test for STDs as soon as possible.

During the waiting time, please do not involve yourself in risk behaviour.

thanks for writing in.
