i was recently involved in a HIV event
held at our school and recieved
information on the condition. there was
one fact that struck me and has made me a
little worried. they said that HIV
symptoms may not show for 8-10 years and
had me thinking about my past.
i migrated to north America about 9 years
ago i was about 10 years old boy then and
a brief time before that i was sexually
molested by an adult male, which is a norm
in a third world country. that was
something i had hidden deep and never
though about, the fact that i might have
contracted HIV is a possibility.
i have recently developed flu like
symptoms, stuffy nose and somewhat sore
throat. i also noticed little skin
blemishes all over my body, little dark
spots. i this just paranoia because the
information brought memories back or am i
starting to see HIV symptoms? my health
history has been pretty good. no major
diseases, only minor kidney stones. the
one thing is that it is still winter in
canada and i did not get a flu shot. the
flu like symptoms are no like a month old.
i need some advice as i am sacred to go
get tested.

horys, the only thing scarier then getting
tested is not getting tested. Believe me
when I tell you, it is 1000 times better
to know then to not now. Not knowing means
not getting treatment and not getting
treatment for HIV leads to AIDS and you
don't want that. You say you live in
Canada, I think testing there is free and
inonamous and the results will be quick
and EZ...Get tested, If you do indeed have
HIV one pill a day is all you need to keep
it in check and to get on with your life.
It is true that the symptoms can take 10
years to appear. Get tested, my
friend..and let me hear how your doing.
Either way, whether your test turns out
positive or negative, you will be OK. I
have a friend who has been HIV+ for 30
years! I have been positive for 15 I
think...not even sure, so don't stress and
get the test. A simple mouth swab is all
it takes.Good Luck and keep me posted.

I am very sorry to hear about the
molestation. That is really sad. This
has happened to me about 4 times in Kenya.
It is a terrible thing to go through.
You need to get tested and you also need
counseling. You need to heal the wounds,
get your self worth up and know your
status. Canada takes care of its HIV/AIDS
population very well. Take heart and hang
in there. Do as Homerx says.
Homerx is recommending a swab in the mouth
while I say go for a blood test. I am old
fashioned.

BLOOD tests are best, and most accurate.
USUALLY, if you have HIV a test will show
an accurate positive 3-6 months after
exposure..That is IF you actually
contracted HIV.
Because our immune system's are so great,
it can take awhile for HIV to show
symptoms.
Your best bet is to get a test, and it
would be accurate!
Having HIV does not make you any less
special, loveable, and wonderful.

Many of us have been molested by even our
own brothers, our own uncles but that is
not going to keep us from living our full
potential.
Do as Homerx, Mson and Carifairi say: Be
patient, wait, don't stress and in most
likelihood, you will be fine. You live in
Canada, a country with compassion and they
help people with HIV/AIDS. If that should
come down to you.
I am not one to give you advise on this
disease because I don't have it. So, just
a grandmother talking here.
i had a talk with my mom about any blood
tests we went through when we immigrated
and she said yes. two times actually
because my father had lost the results of
the first. i asked her about HIV testing
and she said yes. that was 9 or so years
and i have not been sexually active in
that period. so this may just be an
allergic reaction.
i did however check the immigration laws
for medical testing and they said HIV
testing is done for people over 15 years
of age and for children who have a parent
test positive. so since my mother and
father are negative...maybe they didn't
test my blood....so this may mean i should
be checked out.
my health has been fine through the years.
nothing large...fractured a wrist, same
one twice....recovered finely. my weight
has been increasing every year and i have
been playing football through high
school...i have never experienced any
weight loss as that is one of the
symptoms...i am at about 265 pounds right
now. i didn't get a flu shot...i never
do...and i did go outside in the winter
without a jacket a couple of times to get
stuff from the car....maybe just some flu.
i really don't want to go through the
testing experience and the waiting
period...i guess i have to now thou. thanx
for the responses.

I am glad you used a condom properly. I
don't think you have any reason to worry
but if you are very concerned, wait three
months and get tested for your piece of
mind. During this time, keep away from
risk activities. Please see a doctor is
you can with the list of things you
mentioned here. All the best, Always -
