I have been having pain in my hip area when walking for a couple of weeks. When I get up in the morning after resting, it hardly hurts at all, but when I start walking on it the pain starts, the more I walk the worse it is. On days when its really bad, I can't lift my leg under its own power. When I sit down and elevate my leg the pain is just a dull ache, but my knee starts to hurt. The pain in my knee feels like something squeezing very hard only from the inside out. The two things definitely feel related though. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you

Nikkelar,

Since there are so many things which can cause discomfort in the joints, without a full evaluation it usually is not possible to tell what the exact cause is.

You do not say if you have had trauma to the area, if you have any inflammatory conditions, a family history of DJD, or other information.

In general, when patients complain of pain occuring after activity in the joints, you thing of osteoarthritis (DJD - degenerative joint disease). Patients with inflammatory disorders (such as rheumatoid arthritis) usually feel worse after rest and better with activity. But, without an evaluation, it is not really possible to say what is going on exactly.

If it does not respond to the usual home remedies, you may want to see your physician about it.

Good luck.
