Hi,
I am a 58 yrs old male.
My B.P is 140/78.
If the normal is 120/80, what does a higher systolic and lower diastolic mean ?
I exercise 4 times a week for 30 min., do nor drink or smoke and my BMI is 126

It sounds like you may have "isolated systolic hypertension". It is a rather common form of hypertension that is usually caused by age related stiffening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). If this is the case, then the hbp does not originate in the kidneys and your treatment focus needs to be on the health of your arteries, specifically the endothelium (the lining in the arteries). You are already exercising, which is fantastic for your arteries (the nitric oxide created by exercising helps with vasodialation).
Some natural treatment options which target this specific area include: pomegranate, zinc, and the Zona Plus device (shown to reverse endothelial dysfunction). I don't think your bp is high enough to warrant prescription meds, but if you decide to go that route I would suggest avoiding beta-blockers, ACE Inhibitors and ARBs. I would talk to your doctor about diuretics first and if those don't work, maybe a calcium channel blocker.
Good luck!

high blood pressure with low diastolic
hi,

i am hoping to find some answers. my father is 69 years old, has had angina 10 years ago, undergone angiogram and is hypertensive. he was operated a year ago for gallbladder. he just had his general physical exam which turned out ok but the doctor noticed his blood sugar was a little high (not too high to be worried about though but reasons enough to go on diet) and his high blood pressure is 180/73 for five days now. he was given medicine to take to lower the pressure for 5 days to no avail. what could be wrong with him and what can be done? thanks
