So I was on the depo shot with no periods for one year ending with the last shot in Sept 07. I didn't receive my period again until August 08. Since then I have been charting my periods and they have been coming about every 16 days till November. Now its almost been a month and I haven't gotten it again. I have been to the doctor many times in which they have drawn my blood many times. My prolactin level is slightly high. After a few blood tests, I had an MRI to check for a cyst on my pituitary gland. That came back negative.

My last visit with the doctor we decided to try medication to help me ovulate, but she wanted to wait till I had my period again to start. Now of course its been 28 days since my last one.

Please help!!

High prolactin levles can be caused by a number of disorders. Some possible conditions include.

* Chest wall trauma or irritation
* Hypothalamic disease
* Hypothyroidism
* Kidney disease
* Pituitary tumor that makes prolactin (prolactinoma)
* Other pituitary tumors and diseases

It's also noteworthy to consider that temporary raises in prolactin levels can occur. Possible causees for temprary increases include:

* A recent breast exam
* Recent exercise
* Stress

Finally, certain medications can raise prolactin levels, including:

* Antidepressants
* Butyrophenones
* Estrogens
* H2 blockers
* Methyldopa
* Metoclopramide
* Phenothiazines
* Reserpine

It seems like you'll just need wait for your menstrual cycle begin. IF you're feeling stressed and are putting a lot of attention and worry on your health, this might be causing the delay. Try to relax this weekend and take your mind from it. A body in stress is an environment for disease.
