Q: High IOPs and glaucoma

Does anyone have experience with having high intraocular pressures, resulting in glaucoma? I have had fairly high pressures (high 20's to low 30's mmHg, with the air puff meter) for the last few years. My Dr. says he sees no change in the optic nerve as of yet, and that he will keep an "eye" on it. The perimetry test also was normal. I am only 45, but I am concerned that having these high pressures over time will turn into glaucoma and will effect my sight before it is caught. Does anyone else have these high IOPs with no consequences?

Extremely eHealthy
An eye pressure of greater than 21 mm Hg, is defined as intraocular hypertension, that is not considered a disease itself, just puts individuals at greater risk for developing glaucoma later in life.
Not all people with intraocular hypertension will develop glaucoma (1 in 10 patients with ocular hypertension will progress to glaucoma within years).
For the ones who have ocular hypertension in ranges of 26-30 mm Hg, frequency of glaucoma changes are 12-26% of people with hypertension.
Regular eye check ups, determining the thickness of cornea (thiner cornea, increased likelihood to develop glaucoma), are important factors to be checked.
You may decrease the risk for glaucoma, if your ocular hypertension is lowered with medications or laser therapy.
Knowing the cause for hypertension is very important, too.

Best wishes!

Secondary Glaucoma
I am only 16 and found out I had secondary glaucoma my doctors told me it was from all my medication that I was taking. My pressure was in the low 30s. And my doctor did not tell me I had glaucoma one of the nurses slipped and said I had it so they started treating it with cosopt. Along with glaucoma I have bilateral uveitis, macular degeneration, and cataracts. But can anyone tell me what side effects I could get from secondary glaucoma or cosopt and their experience. Thanks!
