I am 53, 104 lb active female with elevate B/P and high cholesterol. I took 20 mg of Liptor daily, ate a sensible high protein/low carb diet. I am fairly active, however lipid panel came back with the following results:

TC:259
HDL: 49
TRI: 116
LDL: 187

TC/HDL (risk ratio) 5.3mg/dl (Desirable range: less than 4.)
ALT 14 & AST 24

The doctor increased the Liptor to 40 mg daily with a re-check in 6 weeks. At what number should I become comcerned? Even with the diet, exercise, and meds it keeps creeping upwards. Everyone else here numbers have dropped...what gives?

did the 40mgs of lipitor work for you. sometimes you have to do a trial and error of medication that works for you.

THE 40 MG DROPPED THE TOTAL TO 251 AFTER 2 1/2 MONTHS. THE CARDOLOGIST SAID IT SHOULD HAVE DROPPED IT BY 40%. I TAKE THE MEDICATION EVERY MORNING AT 7:30 WITHOUT FAIL. WE WILL CONTINUE THE MED FOR ANOTHER 6 WEEKS. IF IT DOESN'T DROP TO ACCEPTABLE LEVELS THEN WE WILL TRY ANOTHER MEDICATION.

i took lipitor for five months. i would get leg pains for no reason at all. two weeks ago i went to the hospital for knee and leg pain. they told me they dont know what's wrong.
i researched lipitor's side effects and they have a server side effect of muscle pains for no reason and that could lead upto liver failure.
so i m scared to take my lipitor, i m going to ask my doctor to put me on something else.
