please bare with me

my doctor just recently told me that i have high cholesterol, apparently pretty high considering my age (im 20). not ever being exposed to any of this, i'm worried out of my mind.
i've been doing as much research i can about what could happen, but i'm still a bit... nervous.
i would assume my young as is just a benefit, i should have plenty of time to fix this?
and i don't know if this is maybe too much info but i am wondering how this is going to effect another thing im trying to fix as well, which is they put me on birth control to more or less even things out because as it is now i cannot get pregnant. will i have to stop taking my BC, or should i have been put on it in the first place?

thank you for your time

There should be no problem with you taking bc. This does not affect your cholesterol levels. Diet, exercise, and medications are used to treat high cholesterol. Be sure to check with your doctor.
