Herpes virus can be transmitted when there is no visible activity (sores, itching, etc).

Even if you bf does not have any symptoms does not mean that the virus has not been transmitted to him. He could be one of these that does not get the symptoms but could transmit it without knowing it. Or he could be lucky and not have been exposed directly to the virus.

Herpes is a tricky disease. I believe Valtrex is a medication to cut down on outbreaks and condoms would greatly reduce potential transmission.

I was diagnosed with it about 4 years ago. Its not in my genital area but right in the middle of my buttock. I only had about 2 outbreaks a year and took valtrex each time. Now i havent had an outbreak in over a year. my husband hasnt got it and we didnt have any sexual contact during my outbreaks. I think as long as your careful, your bf should be ok. Its very rare to catch it if you havent got obvious symptoms.

as someone else said you can transmit herpes even when you do not have any symptoms. Theres a small chance but there is still enough of one to take it seriously. The only reason why your partners havent got it is because of luck or strong immune systems.

I would have a talk with your partner to see if they would like to take extra precautions to not get herpes. Those would be: no sex during an outbreak, taking medication, and wearing condoms. You can do all of that if you decide together that he does not want herpes.

My hubby and I decided not to take precautions other than not having sex during an outbreak. It worked for us mainly because we are married and arent going to be with anyone else. The medication doesnt do well with me and we hate condoms. So he basically accepted the fact that he will get it. and after a yr together he did. So its really a conversation you could have together and together you can see what you want to do.
