Women who have genital herpes even without lesions being present, have chances to transmit the virus to their babies during delivery (still, this doesn't happen so frequently).
This can be avoid if the c-section is performed.
On very rare occasions, a baby can become infected before birth.
Herpes in babies is serious infection, since it can spread to the brain and many internal organs, leading to lasting disabilities, such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, seizures, and vision or hearing loss.
