I am 39 yr old female. I have had two previous surgeries through my belly button, the last one Nov. 2008. March of 2009 I started noticing a lump under my belly button. My Gasto doctor said it was a small hernia and advised me to take some Miralax daily. It just got bigger and more painful. I had gotten a sinus infection and bronchitis, which I think made it worse. By the time I was scheduled for surgery they referred to it as a large abdominial hernia. I had an open surgery, they made a five inch incision from the top of my belly button down. I am now 18 days post op and have noticed since the staple removal A lump or bump at the incision site. It is a lil painful. Could it have re-herniated at this stage? Is it supposed to feel that way? Have I gotten scar tissue? I have been afraid to call the doctor because I fear it is the hernia again. Please tell me what you think it may be and what I should do.

You really have to watch it with these...My husband has had a couple of them...Did they caution you about lifting anything heavy?...You really have to watch it as they can give you a problem...If that bump is bothering you then you may have to check it out...You want to watch for out for an infection or possibly a stich that didn't hold...Just take it easy as each repair gets more difficult when it is in the same place...

Regards,
Caroline

Well I did go to the doctor, and I prayed often before that appointment. He felt it and said that it was not re-herniated, but that it was a collection of fluid that should be re-absorbed by my body. I feel somewhat better about knowing that now. It still hurts and bothers me, just hope it goes away before I have to go back to work. The only pants I can wear without pain are stetchy pants and sweats. So I am 3 plus weeks post op and have this fluid build up from my incision. The remedy is time.
