Well here's the story. Hopefully someone can pipe in and help me. I have just now discovered my second hernia. First one was taken care of but I was not happy with the results after. It's always continued to bother me. The new hernia I have is on the opposite side. I really want to find an exceptional hernia doctor to repair this one. Can anyone give me some reference names or ways to find these great doctors?
Thx.

Hi and Welcome to EHEALTH

Have you checked with your insurance carrier for a surgeon in that area?

What problems did you experience with your first hernia?

I checked with Blue Cross Blue Shield and because I have a PPO plan, I can select one of many doctors. They gave me a list of about 100 doctors in the area that I'm in except I don't know where to start. I'm a bit more cautious this time around. The first time I just went to my HMO provider (3 yrs ago) and they gave me a doctor to use and I went with that doctor. I know I had the mesh put in me and it was Laparoscopic but that's all I know. For the most part it's okay except for the fact that I am a very active person that does a lot of activities everyday and it bothers me that I can't due sit ups or work out my abdominal area because I get a shooting pain from the lower hernia surgery that I had.
By the way, when searching for doctors do I search under Gastroenterology?
Thanks

You should find out the type of mesh used the first time around, many problems from the meshes as I'm sure you've seen the numerous complaints..... something doesn't right, the shooting pain might be nerve damage/problems.

When searching look under general surgeon. you want a doctor who knows what he/she is doing. Ask many questions about the meshes & the procedure. There are other option than the polypropylene mesh. There's bio mesh being used now for hernia repairs.
