Q: hernia diagnostic procedures

I think I have a hernia and need some advice. Last february I was laid off and took odd jobs to supplement my income. While helping someone move, I felt a burning sensation in my groin. The next day I awoke to a severely swollen scrotum with extream pain and tenderness, couldn't even shower!! I spent the next two days in bed with an ice pack to reduce the swelling, didn't notice and problem going to the bathroon b/c I just stayed in bed. For a few weeks afterward I still had pain and discomfort. I went to my doctor and she said I probably have an infection and prescribed me antibiotics. Since then I still have discomfort and the swelling comes back whenever I do any heaving lifting. I do not want to go back to my doctor.

Question what type of diagnostic procedure am I in for and can a cat-scan work

The diagnosis of an inguinal hernia is done upon physician exam. The doctor will palpate the groin area, looking for any bulge or protrusion to the area. This can get worse over time so you should go back to the doctor (or a new doctor) and ask for an examination to rule out a hernia.

Sounds like inguinal hernia to me. Heavy lifting, crying, coughing, yelling can exacerbate the swelling. You need to get a second opinion. The only other thing I can think of is testicular torsion, which is when the testical twists on itself. That also needs to be checked out.

If a physical exam can't confirm the hernia, an ultrasound or CT scan can be used to diagnose a hernia.

Thanks for all the feedback really appreciate it.
In quite a bit of discomfort right now, way more than usual, don't think I can handle another physical exam too painfull. Have to help my brother in-law move some furniture this weekend, my sister is pregnant, hopefully I will swell up again and then head straight to the ER.
