Long story short, I have been having a lower abdomen pain (pretty much a constant pain) for about a month now. I have seen two butter-and-bread primary care physicians. One checked and did not feel any hernia by hand. The other one did not even touch me, instead she sent me to CT scan directly. Radiologist reading the CT scan claimed that he saw a small inguinal hernia in my scans. Afterwards, I went to see a general surgeon. He checked me throughly and said he does not feel a hernia. He checked CT scan as well and said he sees something really small, less than the size of a finger tip. He said no surgery is needed. But, I still have some pain there. Recently I got a back spasm and having hard time to hold my back straight. Now, my lower abdomen region hurts more particularly when I stand up from a seat given that my back muscles are not fully functional. Anyway, what do you suggest me to do? Should I go see another surgeon, another primary care physician, or a different specialist? Do I even have a hernia? What should I do now?

I'm not sure anyone can tell you what you should do. The sad fact is, that while hernias can be very pwinfull and potentially life threatning (strangulated), the repairs can produce so many complications that the original hernia pain seems like a minor inconveinience. Check out the posts here and also look at dub dub dub dot herniabible dot com. The site (a little biased but realy good info about alternate methods to mesh and non~tensionnrepair) discuses a strategy called "watchfull waiting". It goes a little against the instant repair dogma inbthe medical world,..... but honestly had I known that even a fraction of what I've undergone would have been possible, I would gladly choose to wait.

My advice, ..... read asmuch as you can, ask your medical team about your concerns and any contradictory info between their spin and your research, and make an informed decision. A luxary many of us wish we had.

Good luck!!!

hello,
I too am experiencing the same symptoms as gabbid! I went to the ER and doc said it was a mild UTI since x-rays showed nothing with spine!! MILD UTI? He gave me Cipro, which did nothing. Went to GP who prescribed a muscle relaxer and PT for spasmatic back. I really don't think that is it either as my lower right back is not spasmatic, it throbs like a toothache unless i bend or sit or stand, then it is like sharp stabbing pains. I will try the PT and see where that leads, but I think I've got something else.
