Hepatitis A (HAV) can cause swelling of the liver, but it rarely causes lasting damage. You may feel as if you have the flu, or you may have no symptoms at all. It usually gets better on its own after several weeks.
However, seeing as your symptoms have advanced, you might want to request a liver panel, which is a range of tests used to detect, evaluate, and monitor liver disease or damage. It usually consists of seven tests that are run at the same time on a blood sample. These include:
* Alanine aminotransferase (ALT)
* Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
* Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)
* Bilirubin
* Albumin
* Total Protein
Check in with your doctor to evaluate the state of your liver ASAP.
