Q: Helping son with MDD - bipolar ?

my son has been diagnosed with MDD, but i think he is bipolar. He is either up and functioning normally, or so depressed he crawls into a bottle and sleeps for days.
He lost his job in January and is still unemployed. He does not have health insurance, but he needs help. He stopped going to his doctors when he lost his insurance saying they only care about the money, not in helping him. I'm so worried about him, and fear he will kill himself with this destructive behavior. Is there any help out there for him? What can we do as his parents. He lives with us (he is 29 years old)

Ah...I see. Could you go into a little more detail. Up and functioning normally does not indicate bipolar. From what you've said it sounds like the diagnosis of depression is correct. If he were bipolar he'd be bouncing off the walls Smile Does he have any other symptoms of bipolar? If he does you could always get a second opinion (see my other comment regarding forcing him to a doctor!) I was dragged kicking and screaming, though I was a female teenager so this was obviously physically easier to do.....
