I think my 17 cousin is bipolar. She has depressions, she ears very dark voices...and she cuts herself! I'm very scared for her, because she can hurt herself or worse! She doesn't want to get professional help, because she would not be allowed to finish her psychology course in UK! She says she will be forced to quit te course because if she has an mental illness she can't finish her psychology course! Is it true? Can she finish her course and also get medical treatment! Please help me, i'm desperate.

Thank you

okay first - she is a psychology student so she can start treating herself by studying different therapies

cognitive behavioral therapy is for depression
dialectic behavioral therapy is for borderline (MUST DO)
EMDR is for trauma but is not recommended but interesting to understand.

secondly she needs to start projecting herself outwardly in ways other than cutting. For example talking and getting out the thoughts that put her at risk and make her a danger to herself.

third she must seek comfort from her external environment. soft things, shiny things, food cravings, tea, bath salts, etcetera.
