Q: help with tmj treatment

hi. i've never posted on this forum before! im from the uk and have suffered for TMJ for quite a while now. I first started noticing symptoms about 8 years ago when my ears began to pop and I would experience deafness. over the years my symptoms progressively got worse and I would have an almost constant jaw ache and pain, fullness in the ears, tinnitus, ear popping, crepitus in my jaw joints etc. I've seen ENT specialists over the years who have told me I have eustachian tube dysfunction and an inflamed nose, but they dont know why. when I began to look into tmj disorder I realised that it was probably this causing my ear symptoms and I went to seek treatment. I went to a private dentistry clinic who specialised in TMJ treatment and they told me that my teeth were sliding and my jaw was very misaligned. So I underwent the treatment for most of last year where they repositioned where my teeth met with a splint before finally taking bits of my teeth off so they would fit in the new position. This happened about six months ago and although my teeth dont slide anymore when i eat, I am in alot of pain with my jaw and my ears are getting much worse.

I wanted to ask whether anyone else has had this treatment before and has it worked for them?

And also where do I go from here? What has actually worked to relieve symptoms for other people? I want to see some sort of chiropractor I think but Im not very knowledgable on who to see!! Theres all these different names for therapy and I dont know what to try? Can anyone help me??

You seem pretty overwhelmed. I can understand.

What treatment therapies are you considering besides chiropractic?

I would go for an MRI, who should, hopefully, be prescribed by an oral surgeon to determine what's going on inside with your joints. Perhaps they will see something.

So now your condyles are going even deeper into the TMJs. That could only make the damage worse. You need splints to prevent that damage from happening during the day and esp at night.
