Hi all. I will make this short. 39 year old male with diagnosis of a metabolic myopathy. Cause muscle pain, twitching cramping.......similar to fibro and cfs. I am a teeth clencher for about 10 years. A year ago I developed tmj and disc displacement. I seem to have most of symptoms.
Pain, burning, muscle spasms, extreme muscle tightness in face, popinig, pins and needles in face and arms, next pain, tinnitus, sore throat, ........ Here are my questions?

Therepy seems to help but only lasts for a few days. Should I continue or could that make matters worse?

My jaw doc wants me to consider surgery to put disk back in. He says my opening and bite is off and causes the pain and muscle spasms. anyone have surgery and what was the outcome?

My jaw and tongue fatigues fairly easy when talking or eating how common is this?

Please help me I am a wreak.

Thank you
DD

Extremely eHealthy
Experiencing jaw and tongue fatigue when talking and eating, means that your tongue and jaw muscles are weak.
Weak muscles is basic characteristic for your diagnosis of metabolic myopathy.
Also, the muscles that stabilize the joint become fatigued from overwork, which can happen if you habitually clench or grind your teeth.
So, this adds to condition of having weak and fatigue muscles.
You may feel pain every time you talk, chew, or yawn, due to muscle spasm resulting from TMJ.
Muscle spasm can bring on swallowing difficulties, too.

How you were treated for TMJ till now?

Hi MandMs,

I am currently going thru physical therepy and take some flexeril and ibuprofen. No real treatment for tmj until last summer, The jaw doc is ready to take me off therepy and wants me to have the surgery. I am hesitant but am completely worn out with this. Have you had surgery or know anybody that has had it for disc displacement?

Thanks

DD
