Q: help with diarrhea

I have had diarrhea for the last 3 days. I started with just a little bit of it and began taking pepto-bismol and stopped eating solid food. I have been keeping my diet to jello, soups, and toast but I still have diarrhea. It's very watery and it has some mucous the stool is also almost black, i think it may be due to the pepto-bismol. Do you think it's a viral infection? Should I go to a doctor?

The best cure is the B.R.A.T. diet (as recommended by nurses and other health care professionals). Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast. Think fiber because you're trying to stop-up your system. The mucus could be the jellos or soups you're eating. You don't want more liquids, you want fiber. Also, the pepto-bismol is what is making your stool black (in my experience). Try the BRAT diet for a couple of days and see if that helps.
