Q: HELP W/ MRI REPORT
asked by: BSHANE651 on September 15th, 2008
New User
I am a 30 yoa male , referred for mri imaging due to dizziness, discomfort, visual field disturbances.
The mri report says
Conclusion:
1.focal, small area of white matter encephalomalacia is visualized in right centrum semiovale, adjacent to the body of the right lateral ventricle, creating mild focal dilatation of the right lateral ventricle due to the encephalomalacia,

2. The focal white matter encephalomalacia may be due to prior traumatic injury, focal lacunar infarction, or other idiopathic brain insult., the age of the lesion is chronic. I would not expect this finding to cause headache or visual disturbance.

3 the optic pathways appear normal bi laterally

4 the remainder of the brain is unremarkable.

End of report

I already know it is softenin of tissue
I have an appointment now for eeg/vep testing
I tried to make an appointment with my nuerologist to explain the mri, with no success, i was born with very mild cerebreal palsy (left side) coult this cause the encephalomalacia?
Is encephalomalacia progressive?
Meaning will it worsen and become life threatening?
I can deal with symptoms but i would like to know i am in mortal danger if thats the case. Can somebody who knows please try to expain the report to me
