im 18 years old and ive been with my partner for 3 years. Ever since i had meningitis at 12 ive had an under active thyriod me and my partner would like to start trying for a baby ive been reading a lot of articles saing that an under active thyriod can make you infertile i am on levothyroxine but i stopped taking my medication for about six months i was wondering what i should do iam now taking my medication as prescribed i would be greatful for any advice thanxxxxxxxx

You need to get in touch with your endocrinologist to make sure you are getting the right balance of thyroid regulating hormones. You also should contact a fertility specialist and make sure that you are healthy enough/not infertile. The chances of infertility in people with underactive thyroid are not that much greater than a normal person. It's not really the disease itself that poses the greatest risk. It is the imbalance in hormones. You are still young. Get your medical issues all figured out and then once you know you are healthy enough and financially and emotionally ready, go for it. Make sure you bring up all questions you may have with your gyn, your endocrinologist, and any other doctor you see. They can help you more than most people on this forum. Good luck Smile
