Hi everyone. I am hoping that someone can ease my mind and tell me that my son is normal.
I started him on pureed babyfood at 6mo. At 8 mo. I gave him a small arrowroot cookie and he choked on a small piece of it (I had to turn him over and give back blows)...that was horrifyingly scarry for me.
Now, he is 11 mo...soon to be 12 mo. in about 2 weeks ...I have been giving him some chunkier stuff but he always (or most always) chokes on it and vomits.
He has been able to eat the Mum Mum biscuits...and can eat very very small bits of macaroni and can even eat Cream of Chicken soup (the chicken pieces are very very small again)...
But it seems if I give him anything remotely larger than a grain of rice he chokes on it and then vomits everything up...I tried small pieces of scrambled eggs this am and again...upchuck...this time he was choking to the point where I had to again put him upside down.

I am really really getting worried about the fact that he can't swallow bigger pieces of food. I don't dare give him a piece of toast or bagel or even a piece of ground beef....I am so scared now that he is going to choke that I end up feeding him the pureed baby food in the jars and I am getting sick of that. (I wonder if he is also???...lol..)

Does anyone have this problem or had this problem?
Will it clear up by itself in time?
Or is there something anatomically wrong with him

P.S. He has his 2 bottom teeth in and his 4 front upper ones are coming in all at the same time (they are about 1/4 of the way down now)

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Sue.

It's hard to say if this is a medical problem or just a matter of preference. My son would never let me feed him anything with chunks. He might let me put it in his mouth but he would spit it right out. I have a daughter who made herself throw up when she didn't like it. It does sound a little scary in your situation tho.

I thought my son would get sick of baby food too, but my goodness I couldn't get him to stop eating the 2nd jars of baby food until he was over 18 months old!

I'd say give him time. Sometimes kids just prefer to have no chunks in their foods until they are much much older. Let him stay on non-chunky foods for a while. After a month or so, give him things like the biscuits and later on things like cheese pizza or crackers. That way he's in control of what goes down. If he's still not able to eat solids after 18 months old, then see a doctor.

Hi I know this was a really old post but what was the outcome here?? What worked in the end?? My 11 month old daughter is EXACTLY the same and I really hate it as I know she wants to eat more of a variation of foods, but she is struggling with it. It's frustrating as a mum and I wish I could do more to help so any advice would be fantastic........
