Q: heavy bleeding since Merina insertion

the IUC Merina was inserted on the 3rd of this month (during my period)and I've been experiencing heavy bleeding every day since. I was told there would be spotting but this is much heavier. I don't think its an infection ...is this normal? I'm a hormonal wreck my mood swings are driving me crazy.
