Heavy bleeding on Nuvaring
Posted: 07-10-08 15:31pm

Hello!
i had my period last week, i put in a new ring on friday the 4th. I took it out and forgot to put it back in on Saturday. I woke up Tuesday morning and was bleeding lightly. as the day progressed the bleeding got really heavy. It doesnt look like normal bleeding from your period. Its bright red and is really thin. Anyways this afternoon i went to the bathroom and sat down and blood just kept coming out!!! it was just a constant stream for about 3 minutes. I called the nurseline last night and they said its just a period. And i have used the ring in the past and messed up on my dates but NEVER have i bled in between them. I have been having heavy cramps and lower back aches...I am assuming its just from the birth control...but why is it so heavy??? it just doesnt seem right to me

It is hard to say if that bleeding is caused by improper use of Nuvaring or is due to some organic reason (infection, tumor, endometriosis etc.). If the bleeding is due to the hormonal imbalance caused by the Nuvaring (functional bleeding) it should stop spontaneously after some time. But if the reason is organic the bleeding won't stop without certain therapy.
You can continue wearing the Nuvaring but if the bleeding become severe or not stop in a week you can consult your gynecologist.
