Q: Heavy bleeding from anus
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2009
I previously had both external hemorrhoids (which were told to me have been fully treated) and a anal fissure (still around, taking an ointment to help treat it). Over the last 24 hours, my anus has been bleeding a ton of blood unprovoked (haven't passed a stool in days, no physical activity, sitting on my couch). Is there any way to slow or stop this bleeding?

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

If there is bleeding from anus and you have a past history of elastic band treatment of hemorrhoids, maybe some artery has opened up. It could also be a recurrence of piles and bleeding from that. A fissure too can be bleeding. It could also be a polyp that is bleeding.

Generally sitting in a tub of warm water helps. However you must consult a doctor and locate the point of bleed. You can go back to the previous doctor who treated your hemorrhoids. Hope this helps. Take care!
