Three to five days before I get my regular period, I have a day where I bleed very heavily. It is always a surprise, and there's enough bright red blood to soak through my underwear and pants. Last month, I had sex on this day, when I didn't know it. My husband was covered in blood. When we went to shower, chunks of tissue were being washed down the drain. I inserted a tampon. I took it out four hours later, and it was clean. I had no more spotting until my period arrived four days later.

This month--same thing. He was covered in blood. I had no prior warning that this was going to happen. I have no pain or cramping with this. My period is not due for four more days. I put a tampon in, and again, it came out clean a few hours later.

This is very annoying, and has been happening for the past 18 months or so. Is this normal? I just had a PAP smear and GYN visit, and everything came back normal.
