Heart murmur, hypothyroidism and pernicious anaemia
Posted: 07-07-08 13:17pm

In the last year i've been diagnosed with firstly hypothyroidism then pernicious anaemia approximately 5months ago and am having treatment for both, however I went back to the doctors because i was still feeling extremely exhausted, have no energy cannot do any form of exercise including climbing stairs without feeling dizzy. I also mentioned that I occasionally get chest pains. The doctor then listened to my chest and back and said I had a heart murmur. He didn't explain anything but said I needed to have a chest xray and an EKG and go back once I have had them done. I am a 22year old female, do I have anything to worry about, it feels as if my body is failing me, I just cannot do anything that requires any energy. Even after sleeping over 8 hours i don't feel refreshed. I have also been on the contraceptive pill for over 3 years and for the first time missed my period 2 weeks ago, is it stress or am i pregnant? Please help

You could be pregnant so you should do a home pregnancy test.
Heart murmur should be evaluated with ECHO-cardiography (ultrasound). X-ray and ECG won't be enough.
Tiredness could be due to hypothyroidism.

Well I am not pregnant as i did a test last week and it was negative so I am putting it down to stress. I had my ECG and x-ray last week, and am awaiting an appointment for an echocardiogram. Do I have reason to be worried or could it be something minor?

Only echocardiography can determine the real origin of that heart murmur and the possible diagnosis. In many times, murmur can be due to some benign reason, so called "innocent" heart murmur.
What does your blood count say? Are you still anemic?
Have you checked the blood levels of TSH and T4?
