The depression that sometimes occurs after a heart attack (and/or after a stroke) is usually self-limited. That is, the depression usually lifts as time goes by. Medications may help. Family and friends help. Keeping active and involved with other people's problems also helps. Help received from a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist may be indicated and often does help.
