Heart Attack and Memory Loss Posted: 05-19-08 16:19pm
My Mother had a major heart attack 1 1/2
years ago, my Brother was able to provide
CPR until the ambulance arrived. She had
a 6 way bypass. It was appox 15 mins
before the Paramedics were able to shock
her back and now her memory is shot. It's
gotten better, at first she couldn't
remember 5 minutes at a time and parts of
her long term memory were also affected.
Now we can at least carry on a
conversation but she still loses track of
things, she can retain some information
for a few hours and other things just slip
away after a few minutes. She is diabetic
and it sort of depends on her blood sugar
but my question is . . . . Is this
permanent? At first the Drs said she would
make a full recovery but it's been over a
year. She is absolutely miserable, she is
frustrated and angry and I need to know if
anyone else has any experience with this
type of thing.
