This is my first time to use the Forum and I hope I get some helpful answers from people who have had the same problem as it would make me more calm and patient. I began a common cold about 2 weeks ago accompanied by mild sore throat and a fever which was l00.6. I tried home remedies, over the counter medications e.g. cough drops, cough syrup as I had a cough for only 2 days. Then things got worse and my left ear began to pain severely. I took aleve and did get relief which lasted for a day. Then the left side of my face near my ear became numb with continued pain. I knew I had a common cold because of the cough and sore throat. At last I went in to my doctor. She looked in my ear and found a small wad of cotton as big as a pea. She questioned re the cotton and I explained I put cotton and sweet oil in my ear and I thought I pulled it all out the very next day, but apparently I did not get it all. I must also add that I discovered that I had a loss of hearing. I could not hear anything, not even water dripping or telephone. I still cannot hear.
The hearing loss was not so evident while in her office. She said I had an ear infection and prescribed an antibiotic. I have 20 huge pills and I must take them all. I am now in the 8th day and still have hearing loss. I do not have any congest in my chest, nose or throat. My only problem now is the loss of hearing.
I am wondering how long this will last. I have 7 more pills to take, but I should be feeling some kind of hearing coming back. But I feel no relief after 8 days of medicine. I hope someone can share their ear infection experiences . I have an appointment in 10 days. If no relief I will see her sooner. Thanks for reading.

I am in the same boat - 2 weeks, 3 different antibiotics and no relief. I can't hear a darn thing! Please let me know if you find a cure because I am starting to lose it!
