Q: health insurnace stipulations???

After being uninsured for a year, my son is re-entering college & should now be able to be added on to a group policy. Previously, his step-mom covered him on hers & we just reimbursed her, because hers was much less expensive than mine. Now, however, I'm being told that he has to be taking 18 hours to be insured (used to be 12), and that he has to live in the residence of the step parent in order to be covered, which seems ridiculous to me, if he's in college! Am I being fed a line? Has anyone else heard of these kinds of stipulations?

I'm not sure. It's quite possible that you must prove that he's a "dependent." You might be able to meet the stipulations by making sure that his permanent residence is officially noted as his step-mother's home (forwarding address). However, 15 hour is considered full-time in my book. I'd write to the company to request a waiver.
