Headache with precise regularity of its timing, striking at a precise time of day each morning or night, even precisely at the same time a week later, is a unique characteristic for a type of headache known as a cluster headache.
There can be episodic form of this headache when attacks are happening once or twice daily for a period of several weeks, followed with a headache-free period lasting weeks or years, and then the headache reappears again.
This headache is unilateral in most of the cases, extremely intensive, lancinating (like a knife penetrating) or boring in quality, located behind one eye, radiating down to the neck, shoulder or sometimes feeling a pain even in the leg.
Redness of the eye, tearing, runny nose, facial blushing, swelling, or sweating, are common symptoms during the headache attack.
The attack is also associated with restlessness.
