I am very concerned, I had protected sex with a man I later found out was HIV positive. The condom broke during intercourse but we stopped right away and withdrew. He said he is on treatment but I am worried about the risk of me contracting the virus.

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Since the exposure was protected, and you stopped as soon as the condom broke, the risk of infection would be less.

You might consult a HIV couselor, and if indicated Post exposure prophylaxis can be helpful to reduce the risk of HIV infection further.

In addition testing for HIV with the HIV Duo (ELISA for HIV and P24 HIV antigen) after 4 weeks of exposure, might give a confirmation of your status.
