Wondering why my blood pressure is always highest in the morning??? I thought that it should be lower in the morning?? I am currently on Verapamil switched to 240mg. Could there be something happening in the sleep at night?? I am not a snoring person, so my wife says. Any comments suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Like many body functions, blood pressure has a daily pattern. At night decreases, when we get out off bed starts to increases and peaks about midafternoon.
Abnormal daily pattern, like high blood pressure in the morning, can be due to: poorly controlled high blood pressure, sleep apnea, some medications, diseases, night-shift work, caffeine and tobacco use and too much stress.

Good morning
Thanx for the reply. I am not on any medications except for the verapamil 240mg that I take every morning. My b/p seems to be peaking right in the morning when i wake up? I just got out of the Marine Corps and have been at home relaxing for the last 30 days. I swim each morning and workout following that, so I don't seem to be under stress at this point. This has been going on for about 9 months now. Do you think it could be something with the sleep pattern? I am going to go to the naval base here locally and maybe get sleep studies done. Thanx.

Hi!
Certain blood pressure medications can also cause high blood pressure to occur in the morning, as some of them don’t last a full twenty-four hours. Your medications can be switched with other one or with a combination of meds.
You can ask your doctor for a twenty-four hour monitoring test, which will measure your blood pressure during that time period, which will better illustrate when your blood pressure peaks and when it doesn’t.
Has your wife noticed that you are having episodes of choking or gasping for air while sleeping and repeated silences from your side of the bed?
Have you experienced waking up in a sweat during the night?
