Hard lump on side of head
Avatar
My son was born with a small lump on the left side of his head, which is above the temple. We were told that it would go away but he's 5 1/2 months now and it seems that the lump has gotten slightly wider. The lump is hard like the bone and does not move. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it as he feeds, sleeps, and plays well. I'm concerned though. Our pediatrician said that it should be nothing but wanted us to monitor it. What are our options in seeing if it could be something serious. Would a CT scan or x-ray be necessary at his age? What are the risk for infants? What could this lump be?

Just to be on the safe side, I would have this checked out. Infants can develop cancer (called neuro-blastoma) too. It's a bit of a worry because it has grown and not faded as I would think the case should be in a "non-worry" situation. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't recommended something on this account. If anything, it would be great even for your peace of mind to get that CT..

My daughter was born with the same thing. When we first noticed the lump I was told by the doctor that her scull has not fully formed and it would eventually go away. She will be four at the end of the month and the lump is still there. It doesn't seem to be bothering her but has gotten larger with her head. I ask them to check it out everytime we take her to the doctor and they just keep telling me to keep an eye on it. I had an ultra sound done on her head but they couldn't find anything...I guess that's good news. The next step, I was told would be a CT scan. I was told they would have to sedate her and she would be exposed to a lot of radiation...a risk we were not willing to take. They said as long as it wasn't bothering her there was no need for action. I am not fully satisfied with this theory, going to get a second opinion.

My daughter is 3 and half months old and she has a bump on her forehead as well. I had an ultrasound done and the doctor said she was fine, that there is nothing wrong with her. The bump feels hard so i don't know weather it's a bone or some sort of a cyst. We can't do an CT scan because she is too young. It hasn't grown since she was 1 month old. It does not bother her at all nor does she feel any pain. I just wish that i knew what this was and when will it go away....

HARD LUMP ON SCALP
Hi, I am in my late 40's I was born with a hard lump on my scalp above my forehead. I have no problem with it since and it hasnt grown too. In early 2000 I started taking antioxidant supplement and the size has reduced, it got bit expensive for me to continue and I stoped but I know I have to continue to get the size down further. I also have some people from the same community whose lump continued growing when get grow older but theirs got operated and lump removed. I was told that its so much like the male pig/pork growth and its simply cut and removed and poses no harm. Mine didnt get removed because doctors said it was not growing. But now I want it removed because its embarrasing when I have hair do's I get a lot of questions asked about it.

Thank you

Feedee
