Q: Hard lump in buttock

I've done a search regarding the subject and found a couple of responses, however none of which really pertain to my personal situation.

I awoke yesterday morning to find a small lump, about the size of a pea under the skin of my left butt cheek, near the area that connects with my thigh, however NOT on my gluteal cleft. It is hard to the touch and rather painful, considering pressure is placed upon it anytime I sit down, there's some darkish red discoloration on the skin. I don't believe it to be a cyst as I've tried squeezing it, and nothing comes out, it just hurts. As well, I don't think it's a Lipoma, which from what I understand is soft to the touch. It's starting to become disruptive while sitting down or driving =/

I spend a lot of time sitting down, and don't have much of a butt, so a lot of pressure is placed upon that area by my seat bones.

Any ideas?

Extremely eHealthy
Hard, red, tender lump is suggestive for an early stage of an abscess (collection of pus underneath a portion of skin, due to infection with bacteria that had entered the skin through any cracks or injury to the skin)
The most important treatment for small, and, hard abscess is heat application, with hot soaks or hot packs (soak at least 3 or 4 times a day, 10-15 minutes each time).
Once the abscess or boil becomes soft or "forms a head", will drain on it own with soaking.
If this lump becomes bigger, more painful with increased redness of affected area, or, accompanied with fever, you should seek medical attention.

Have you been on meds recently?
Do you suffer from a chronic medical condition, like diabetes?

Sorry for my late reply, I haven't had access to the internet for the past 2 weeks or so.

Since my last post, the lump itself subsided and no longer poses any discomfort, nothing ever leaked out of it (to my knowledge) it just subsided over two or three days until it no longer posed any discomfort.I get the feeling, however this might be a recurring condition.

I have not been on any medication recently, nor do I suffer from any chronical medical conditions.

Lump as well
I have recently come across the same problem. I have a lump on my left butt cheek. It is hard to the touch and has not yet let any fluid out. It also has a red tinge around it. When going to the doctor I was told that it looked like a cyst and that I would need to have it surgically removed asap. I am terrified for surgery!
Please let me know what happens with you. It is nice to know I am not alone with this problem.
Thanks

I have had this happen twice now on my buttcheek and it does get very painful. It seems like it lasts 3-4 days and for me it does finally burst and it's like a pus liquid. I have gone to the doctor both times and was given an antibiotic but that is after the fact. The doctor told me that if i saw a specialist they would have a better answer for me - - possible surgery to remove a possible hair that infects the area, etc.
