Had a THR in May 2009. Experriencing groin pain when I lift my leg? Xrays look fine. Dr. says it could be the main tendon and said only relief would be to cut it. Not going to do that. Any ideas, medically, on what's causing and how to cure this pain?

louienm,

Psoas tenotomies (tenotomy means to release a tendon) can be done for painful snapping hip syndrome. Tenotomies of the medial adductor muscles are usually only done for adduction contractures which interfere with ambulation or hygiene.

It is rare to do a tenotomy just for groin pain.

If the pain is significantly hampering your lifestyle, you should seek another total joint surgeon. There are many things which can cause groin pain after a total hip replacement, from minor to major problems. Minor things would be things like a bursitis, major could be something like an indolent infection or loosing of the components.

Again, you might want to see another surgeon for an evaluation.

Good luck.
