Hi,

About 2 weeks ago I went to the ER with trouble breathing (felt like swelling around my vocal cords). I did not have any other sypmtoms. After several tests (including a chest x-ray with contrast) the physician noticed an enlarged thyorid and eventually I was diagnosed with a thyroid storm. My endocrinologist says that my levels are still "off the chart" and I am on 200 mg of PTU 4 times a day. I was diagnosed with Grave's Diseas but am wondering if this might be something more.

Prior to going to the ER I did not have any symptoms of Hyperthyroidism and other than a rapid heart rate and atrial fibrillation while in the ICU I have not had any symptoms of Hyperthyroid since leaving the ICU 2 weeks ago. I did not have a fever with the thyroid storm or any time since the storm.

Grave's disease was diagnosed using an exam and "antibody levels" but I have not had an ultrasound, iodine, biospy or any other tests on my thyroid for at least 6 months because I was given the contrast dye in the ER and because my levels are still very elevated.

I am wondering if there is another disease (multinodularl tumor, thyroid cancer, etc) that would produce similar lab restuls the results for Grave's disease that might have different symptoms. I have not had ANY symptoms consistant with Grave's disease,no fever, my thyroid is enlarged but has never been tender.

Thanks
