Hi Doc,

I am from India, i have a baby girl and she is 21 months old. Well when she was born i noticed a small granule (Bone) on her forehead jut between the eye, where the nose bone starts. It has gradually increased and still increasing i think. Now it is easily noticed by anyone. When i touch this it feels hard, and baby does not report any pain.

I discussed with a pediatrician here he advised to for surgery. Can you please advise what to do? Should i go for the surgery? Will it be safe? Will it be increasing in future after surgery? Will surgery spot be vanished when she will be grown?

I will be very thankful to you.

Thanks,
Pankaj Kumar

Your description suggests premature closure of the metopic sutures in the skull bone. The description of firmness suggests that the area does consist of bone;so, alternatively, this might be some type of benign tumor in the bone.

Surgery can improve the cosmetic appearance of the skull in situations of premature metopic suture closure. Results long-term are reported as quite good. The surgery is best done in the opinion of several experts in neurosurgery at an earlier age than your daughter for optimal success.

I suggest that you discuss your daughter's diagnosis and treatment plan with the surgeon or her pediatrician before proceeding with any type of surgery.
