Hi all,

If you see my other posts you'll see I have had a few gout attacks-mainly lifestyle produced I guess!

Now generally I've cut back a great deal on my favourite drink-jack Daniels but as I've started a new sales job (great but stressfull) I've been having a few when I get in-again I'm now addressing this & am having a detox!

Ok...my daily 'maintenance' NOW (prior to attacks below it was all the follwin but only herbals were 1 x 500mg vitc c a day & 3 x celery seed tablets) is water (4/5 pints), juice of a fresh lemon on waking in warm water, 3 x 2 tbsp cider vinegar daily, 3 x slow relaease 50mg vit c tablets a day, 3 x cleery seed tablets a day, 3 a cats claw tablets a day (ONLY when I feel any twinge at all as an anti-inflamatory), 3 x quertecin bromelin tablets a day, 2 milk thistle tablets a day, 1 x multi vit tab a day, 20gm ground flax/linseed a day, usually a 3/4 fruit 'smoothie' (3 of my uk reccomended '5 a day!') with frozen berries like blackberry, etc...

A lot of the above is for general health, but the celery seed/vit c, quertecin, cats claw, lemon juice/cider vinegar is aimed at the gout.

If you see my earlier posts you'll see over xmas I had a veery very bad attack of knee gout-so bad that for a day hard to walk, etc...this lasted a good 5-7 days at it's worst.

Now 2 weeks ago for whatever reason I just had a load of duck pate on toast for breakfast, no water to speak of during the day & fried chicken at night!

So....over a day or so I noticed the pain/tightness reapper in my knee. I t was painfull, but only to about 70% of the pain of before.

So-a bit of an experiment.

Kept water levels high & kept taking lemon/vinegar/ground flax/fruit as above BUT increased doseage hugely of others...had 6 lots every 3 hours of....1 x vit c tablet, 2 x quertecin, 3 x cats claw, 1 x celery seed tablet, as above. result-within 1 day 95% GONE!

Now I stopped this doseage straight away & gout came back 2 days later (about 9 days ago now) so carried on 'high' dose for 3 days-again GONE (90% gone anyway) within 1 to 1 1/2 days.

I've researched all the above & it seems that celery seed/quertecin (as well as being good for reducing blood pressure & an antioxident) act like 'alluprionol (?!?)' & stop the bodys production of excess uric acid & the vit c actively lowers uric acid level. I gather the celery seeds force the exccretion of uric acid to urine so keeping fluids up to avoid kidney stones, etc...& will reduce vit c in a week or so to 1000mg...

Will keep you all posted as my last bout of 'non-drinking' I think CAUSED The attack at Xmas (happened 8 days after stopped having any booze!)-old crystals re-dissolving.

Thought the above may be of help to all-supplements all bought in uk at Holland & Barrets.

Have not tried bicarb as in past have had slightly high blood pressure!

My last attack was caused by a 20 year old Remi brandy and since then i have laid off the drink and so far so good.
